Freedom of Information Act 2000

 

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives anyone, anywhere in the world, the right to request any information they want from a public organisation in the UK.

 

Exemptions can apply in some cases which means that everything that is asked for is not necessarily provided. This includes any information that is seen to be confidential or covered by the Data Protection Act 1998.

 

The aim of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 is to encourage public organisations, such as NHS Trusts, to be more open about the information they possess.

 

The Publication Scheme is part of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and can be used in conjunction with Freedom of Information requests.

This Publication Scheme is a complete guide to the information routinely published by NHS Walsall and NHS Walsall Community Health. It is a description of the information about NHS Walsall and NHS Walsall Community Health which we make publicly available. We shall review the Scheme at regular intervals and monitor how it is operating.

 

Under Section 19 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (there is a link to the Act above), NHS Walsall and NHS Walsall Community Health have a legal duty to adopt and maintain a Publication Scheme for the publication of NHS Walsall and NHS Walsall Community Health information. The purpose of the Act is to promote greater openness by public authorities (which includes NHS Walsall and NHS Walsall Community Health).
