Dementia conference - 17 January 2011
Eighty delegates involved in dementia care in Walsall attended an event organised by the Joint Commissioning Unit for NHS Walsall and Walsall Council hosted at Banks’s Stadium. The delegates representing mental health services, the council, voluntary sector, emergency services, acute hospitals, faith groups, care homes, day care, housing, Primary Care and commissioning formed several discussion groups around key local issues. Their numerous comments will help commissioners write the Walsall dementia strategy. There were speakers from NHS West Midlands, The Department of Health West Midlands and good practice examples from both local and regional speakers.
Whilst NHS Walsall and Walsall Council are implementing the National Dementia Strategy: Living Well with Dementia which takes us up to 2014, we have challenges that are particular to Walsall and so we have to develop our own Walsall dementia strategy. This will be supported by a health needs assessment and a gap analysis.
