WAY4Ward is Walsall’s exercise advice and support service for young people. The scheme is delivered by Julie Caddick (Active Lifestyle Officer) who works closely with activity specialists and leisure providers to help and support young people to become more active.
WAY4Ward enables young people and their family to find ways of becoming more physically active in a safe and informed way, by offering flexible but structured advice.
Recommendations to be active are offered through the scheme; these can include small lifestyle changes, such as walking to school, encouragement to participate in mainstream activity sessions, such as attending ‘Fit Zone’ (young person’s gym) and referral to more specialised programmes such as the Fun 4 Life Weight Management Programme.
6 months of support is then offered to the young person and their family to increase the likelihood of sustained changes in activity levels. Support can include telephone as well as face to face contact.
WAY4Ward is run by Walsall Council and funded by NHS Walsall.
