18 August 2011 - Dementia Forum
The second Walsall dementia forum took place recently. The forum takes place every two months and is free to anyone involved in dementia care. At each meeting there is a presentation from the host, a dementia discussion and an outside specialist speaker. So far there have been presentations on The Watermill, a new purpose built residential home for dementia which also have respite beds and day care, Ipads & apps used in dementia care, dementia cafés and reminiscence pods. The next meeting is due to be held in mid September.

18 August 2011 - Dementia Café
The third dementia café has now taken place. These cafés are held at Furlong House on the first Wednesday of the month and are proving to be very popular. The café is for people with dementia and their carers and is a mixture of support, caring advice and social activities. More cafés are planned in October.

9 May 2011 - Emergency Services Dementia Guide
Walsall health officials have developed an Emergency Services Dementia Guide with input from mental health clinicians, learning disabilities clinicians and emergency services mental health leads. The guide has been developed to give front line emergency service personnel a better awareness and understanding of Dementia. The guide is being launched today (Monday 9 May 2011) and will be distributed to the police, fire and ambulance personnel through their respective services. A copy will also be available for download via NHS Walsall’s Dementia web pages. Although it was originally designed for the Walsall area, it has since been modified for the West Midlands.
17 January 2011 - Dementia Care Conference
Eighty delegates involved in dementia care in Walsall attended an event organised by the Joint Commissioning Unit for NHS Walsall and Walsall Council and hosted at Banks’s Stadium. The event was organised so that stakeholders could have a say in formulating the Walsall dementia strategy. There were speakers from NHS West Midlands, The Department of Health West Midlands and good practice examples from both local and regional speakers.
