There are now three standard charges to pay for NHS dental treatment. This makes it easier to know how much you need to pay. The charge that you pay depends on the treatment you need to keep your mouth, gums and teeth healthy.
NHS dental charges are currently spilt into three price bands. You will only be asked to pay once even if you require more than one visit to complete your treatment. These are the only charges you should be asked to pay if you are receiving NHS dental treatment.
Band 1: £17.50
This covers a dental examination, diagnosis and preventative advice. If necessary it also includes x-rays and a scale and polish and planning for future treatment.
Band 2: £48.00
This covers everything in Band 1 and also fillings, root fillings and extractions regardless of how many teeth require treating.
Band 3: £209.00
This covers everything in bands 1 and 2 and also crowns, dentures and bridges.
Urgent treatment: £17.00
Your dentist should always tell you how you much you need to pay before starting your treatment. You may be asked to pay all or some of your treatment costs before you start your NHS dental treatment. Check this with the practice and ensure you have a receipt when you make a payment.
Some people may not have to pay all of the costs for NHS dental treatment and some may not have to pay anything at all. Please see the list of free NHS charges for further information.
