Get support from trained NHS advisers

 

Identify what triggers your urge to smoke.  Try the Addiction Test at www.nhs.uk/smokefree

 

Buddy up with a friend so you can support each other

 

Use nicotine replacement products or other stop smoking medicines to cope with the withdrawal symptoms.  These are available on prescription or you can ask your pharmacist for advice.

Avoid situations where you feel you might be tempted to start smoking again.

 

Use the cash you are saving from not buying cigarettes or tobacco on something special for yourself or your family.

 

Use a carbon monoxide monitor to see for yourself how quickly your body recovers once you stop smoking.  Your local NHS stop smoking services in Walsall offer carbon monoxide monitoring as part of their services.

 

Most importantly – take it one day at a time and reward yourself every day.
