Chinese doctors come to Walsall to learn about Primary Care

A group of Chinese doctors were today visiting various sites across Walsall in a bid to learn more about the development of Primary Care. The visit, which was organised by Walsall Teaching Primary Care Trust (Walsall tPCT) and The Royal College of General Practitioners, aimed to show how Walsall tPCT organise Primary Care, the different facilities used, services provided for older people with Chronic Diseases and Patient Centre Services.

Dr Jagdeesh Singh Dhaliwal, GP for Walsall tPCT, said: “We are really pleased the Doctors have chosen to come to Walsall. We have many innovative examples of excellent medical services in the Black Country and this has given us the opportunity to share our knowledge and experience with our Chinese counterparts.”

Dr Yongnian Chan, President of the Jiangsu Providence Medical School, said “In China we are building up the Community Health Care and GP systems. The UK has a very good system and we want to learn about that.”

The Doctors looked at how GP and patients in England communicate with one another, how GP’s use the computers and the internet to find up-to-date information to help patients and how all staff work together as a team.
