Walsall Pharmacist wins Community Health Worker of the Year Award

A Walsall pharmacist was awarded the prestigious Community Health Worker of the Year Award at Walsall’s Teaching Primary Care Trust (Walsall tPCT) annual Star Quality event. Colin Walker was nominated for the award by a local resident in Walsall in recognition of his 20 years as a community pharmacist in Chuckery. The event which was held on 10 November at Bescot Stadium, showcased areas of good practice and rewarded staff for long service and special achievements. 

 

Paul Jennings, Chief Executive of Walsall tPCT, said: “Star Quality gives Walsall tPCT the opportunity to recognise and reward our staff for all their hard work and contributions throughout the year. Special congratulations to Colin and to the runners up community nurse Rita Chilton and Pheasey dentist Chris Dean.”

 

Presentations were made by staff involved in various programmes throughout Walsall such as: A Patient Centred Approach to Diet and Nutrition in Palliative Care; Social Exclusion and Working towards Social Inclusion and Monitoring Childhood Obesity. Special guests, Professor Aidan Halligan, Executive Chair of Elision Health Ltd and Sir Muir Gray, Programmes Director of the National Screening Committee made speeches and presented staff with their awards. The full list of award winners were Alison Welsh for the Extra Mile Award, Linda Bromwich for the Manager of the Year Award, Human Resources department for the Improving Working Lives Team of the Year Award, Colin Walker for the Community Health Worker of the Year Award and Julie Perry for the Lifelong Achievement Award. Other awards include those for Long Service and an award to Risk Management and Infection Control.
