Could you be a friend in need?
Walsall Teaching Primary Care Trust (Walsall tPCT) and Walsall’s New Deal are appealing for volunteers to attend an introductory session on being a bereavement volunteer. The aim behind the programme is to encourage people with around eight hours a month spare to visit a bereaved person and offer them the support they need. There will be sessions held Blakenall Village Centre in Walsall on Monday 27 November 10.30am till 2pm or Tuesday 28 November 6.30pm till 9pm to train to become a friend in need.
John Hayes, Bereavement Service Co-ordinator, Walsall tPCT, said “We are in the process of setting up an invaluable bereavement service. An important part of the service is the recruitment of volunteer bereavement visitors who will be able to support local Walsall residents. This is an opportunity to share some spare time to make a difference to someone who has lost a loved one.”
Walsall residents who can spare around two hours a week to sit and have a coffee and a chat with a recently bereaved person are welcome to volunteer. Potential volunteers are invited to attend a three and a half hour training session on Monday from 10.30am or on Tuesday 28 November from 6.30pm where they will be taught how to become a friend in need. The sessions will be held at Blakenall Village Centre, Thames Road, Walsall.
