Walsall tPCT nominated for top award

Walsall Teaching Primary Care Trust (Walsall tPCT) has been nominated for the prestigious Primary Care Organisation of the Year award at the annual Health Service Journal Awards. Walsall tPCT were short listed for the award in recognition of their achievements during the last year. The event which takes place on the 30 November 2006 is being held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

Paul Jennings, Chief Executive for Walsall tPCT said: “It is a great honour to be nominated for this award. We have worked extremely hard over the last year to transform Walsall tPCT and it is a privilege to be recognised for this.”

Since 2005 Walsall tPCT have transformed and improved in many areas turning borderline passes in its Healthcare Commission Review and Improving Working Lives Practice into the top-rated Improving Working Lives organisation in its Strategic Health Authority region.

There have been dramatic reductions in teenage pregnancy as well as a re-engineering of older people’s services. The organisation completed three major primary care building projects, and brokered the construction of a Hospice for Walsall, bringing to a successful conclusion an appeal which had been running for almost 30 years. At the same time it pioneered a highly successful GP-led diabetes project, and, with the local authority, led a major childhood obesity project, building on its pioneering work running the first NHS childhood obesity clinic 2004-2005.
