Health Trainers to help football fans who are stuck in a rut

Walsall Teaching Primary Care Trust (Walsall tPCT) Health Trainers will be teaching fans how to impress the ladies, stop the kids nagging and what to do if they feel like their stuck in rut at Walsall Football Club this Saturday 30 December. The team will be dishing out information about a new Health Trainer Service available for the residents of Walsall. The service is designed to offer one to one support to Walsall residents to motivate them to make changes to their lives to improve their health through healthy eating, physical activity and quitting smoking.

Paul Jennings, Chief Executive of Walsall Teaching Primary Care Trust, said: "We are really pleased that we can offer supporters of Walsall Football Club the opportunity to learn more about the new services available to them. The Health Trainer programme is a great initiative to get Walsall people motivated to make the small changes in their life which will hopefully make a big difference to their health in the future.”

Roy Whalley, Chief Executive of Walsall Football Club, said: ““As a result of the great advances made in medical science, most people can look forward to a longer life. That is good news, but just as important is that people enjoy quality of life. This can be done by eating sensibly, exercising regularly, not smoking and drinking in moderation. Hopefully, the information being given out by Walsall tPCT will be heeded by our supporters so that they can look forward to a long and healthy life.”

The service will be launched 2 January 2007 in Pleck, Palfrey, Darlaston, St Matthews and Blakenall areas. Health trainers will spend up to an hour with each client and will work to identify what small changes can be made to improve their health, even if it something as simple as walking the dog or having fruit with their cereal in a morning. They will develop plans, set goals and offer ongoing support to help Walsall residents maintain their changes.
