Health Trainers remind residents it’s not too late for lent
Walsall Teaching Primary Care Trust’s (Walsall tPCT) Health Trainers are today reminding residents that with 33 days of Lent still to go it’s not too late to give up a little something that will make a big difference to their long term health. The Health Trainers are available to help anyone who wants to make a change to their lifestyle through healthy eating, physical activity and quitting smoking.
Susan Morgan, Head of Health Trainers for Walsall tPCT said: "Small changes really can make a big difference and we would urge Walsall residents to think about what they can give up for lent to kick start longer term changes. Ditching the crisps, chucking out the chocolate, cutting out a pint or two or nubbing out the fags really can reduce the risk of health problems in the future and Health Trainers are on hand to support local people to maintain and build on changes. Since the launch of the free service in January 2007 over 150 Walsall residents have been in touch with a Health Trainer and Walsall tPCT is hopeful that the Health Trainer Service will contribute to improved life expectancy rates in the future."
The service is available in Pleck, Palfrey, Darlaston, Willenhall, St Matthews, Bentley, Goscote, Blakenall and Brownhills. Health Trainers spend up to an hour with each client and work to identify what small changes can be made to improve their health, even if it is something as simple as walking the dog or having fruit with their cereal in a morning. They develop plans, set goals and offer ongoing support to help Walsall residents maintain their changes.
