The first ever Health Fair run by Walsall Teaching Primary Care Trust (Walsall tPCT) and Walsall Council has been hailed a great success by Walsall residents. The event took place on 23 January at the Town Hall and provided residents who have a learning disability with information on how they can access the services available to them.
Pauline Martin, Head of Learning Disability Nursing for Walsall tPCT, said: “The day proved to be a huge success and it was a great way for residents to speak to staff and gain simple and easy to read information on the services available to them. The idea of the Health Fair came from our services users and they helped us with all the organising and really got involved during the whole day. It was nice to see everyone enjoying themselves so much while learning at the same time.”
The Mayor of Walsall made a special apperance at the event which was full of stands filled with information from teams such as the Health Trainers, Expert Patient Programme, Occupational Therapy and Epilepsy. There were also lots of demonstrations including the ‘how clean are your hands test’, aromatherapy and how to use a Health Action Plan. Service Users were able to leave feedback on the day by writing their comments on the Feedback wall or leaving a video diary of their entry.
