Plans for a £4.5 million complex in Pelsall combining a health centre, library and children’s centre under one roof have been given the go-ahead.
Walsall’s development control committee unanimously approved proposals for the joint project between the local authority, NHS Walsall and Walsall Children’s Services – Serco.
Work on the development on the site of the existing GP surgery and library in Pelsall High Street is now due to begin next March with completion due by the Spring of 2012.
Flexible facilities
The new building will include accommodation for the GP practices currently providing services directly to Pelsall residents, a full range of children's services, a resident health visitors team, clinical facilities for chiropody, physiotherapy, district nurse consultation rooms and a range of multi-use flexible clinical rooms.
The centre will have more than twenty car park spaces for staff and a further thirty-six spaces for visitors.
Close to home
Denise McLellan, Chief Executive of NHS Walsall, said: “We are committed to providing a wider range of health services closer to people’s homes.
Through public consultation and engagement, local people have told us what they want from their new health centre. I’m delighted that we are now able to deliver just that.”
Partnership
Councillor Zahid Ali, cabinet member for communities and partnerships said: "This new centre will make a real difference to people living in Pelsall and is a prime example of what can be achieved by working in partnership.”
