Walsall fans given advice on blood disorders

A specialist nurse will be informing fans of the chances of inheriting Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia blood disorders at Walsall Football Club this Saturday 27 January. The team will be dishing out leaflets on the blood disorders and urging pregnant women to go for a screening.

Claudette Dennis, Specialist Nurse for Haemoglobinopathy for Walsall Teaching Primary Care Trust, said:  "I hope to give people the chance to learn a bit more about conditions which they may not know they are at risk of, or prone to. Knowledge is power and I hope people will feel better informed and pass this knowledge onto friends and relatives."

Roy Whalley, Saddlers' Chief Executive, said: “Throughout the season Walsall tPCT have been giving out a vast array of health-related information to our supporters, which has been well-received by all. The information that will be given out on Saturday will give people the opportunity to learn more about Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia blood disorders could prove invaluable to some of our supporters and, as always, we welcome Walsall tPCT's presence here at Bescot Stadium.”
