Walsall Stop Smoking Services show their support for the fans

Walsall Stop Smoking Service (WSSS) will be at Banks’s Stadium this Saturday 6 October showing the fans their support in helping them quit smoking. With recent research showing that one in ten smokers in the West Midlands claim to have quit since the July 1st and two thirds have thought about it, WSSS are aiming to reassure smokers of the variety of free help available to them and encourage fans to turn these thoughts into reality and quit for good.

Joanne Robinson, Smoking Cessation Co-Ordinator for Walsall Teaching Primary Care Trust, said: “Quitting smoking is not easy and we want to reassure smokers that they are not alone. People who quit using local stop smoking services are four times more likely to quit than by willpower alone.”

Roy Whalley, Chief Executive of Walsall Football Club, said: "As with all Football League Stadiums, the Banks's Stadium is a no-smoking venue and we fully-support the Walsall Stop Smoking Service's visit tomorrow. Smoking is an addictive habit and it is reassuring to know that the Walsall tPCT are playing their part in helping smokers quit the habit."

WSSS offer help and support to anyone who is considering quitting. There are lots of options available in Walsall from evening and weekend session to support from trained pharmacists and practice nurses. One to one and group sessions are available at various times and locations across the borough with a weekly group session held at Portland Street Walsall on a Wednesday morning at 10am.
