Fun and fitness joint aims of children's health course
Children can pick up advice on controlling their weight while having fun at the same time on the latest Fun 4 Life courses.
Recruitment is now underway for two new courses starting in August at Walsall Gala Baths and Walsall Football Club. Courses are led by the council's Sport and Leisure Development Services team and funded by NHS Walsall.
Fun4Life is a free programme designed to help eight to 16-year-olds improve their health and lifestyle. Parents are also encouraged to join their children on the course to pick up tips about how they can help them achieve their goals.
Jo Cox, Walsall Active Youth Coordinator said: "Fun4Life is for any young person and parent who would like more practical advice about making changes to their own lifestyle covering areas such as doing more exercise and activity to improving their diet.
"At the last Fun4Life programme all the children who completed the course managed to achieve their goal of controlling their weight - a great achievement for all involved, not least, the children themselves who were happier and healthier as a result”
Jo Hudson, healthy weight childrens lead for NHS Walsall added: "Most people in Walsall would benefit from increasing their physical activity and eating a more healthy diet - regardless of weight. Fun4Life addresses lifestyle issues which contribute to excess weight in a fun, non judgemental way. The programme benefits the whole family and aims to help them make long term changes towards a healthier life."
