NHS Walsall Health Chiefs are today praising parents in Walsall for taking the lead when it comes to protecting their children from Mumps, Measles and Rubella (MMR) with completion rates for MMR immunisation in Walsall being the second highest in the West Midlands. However, following two recent cases of measles in Walsall, parents whose children haven’t been immunised or need a booster injection are urged to get their children immunised. They will be sent a reminder letter to let them know it’s not too late to get it done.
Paul Carter, (Consultant Paediatrician and District Immunisation Coordinator), said: ‘Immunisation rates in Walsall for MMR are excellent , however, there have been some recent outbreaks of measles in the West Midlands. To be sure measles does not start spreading in Walsall and that all children are fully protected, parents are encouraged to contact their GP as soon as possible if any of their children have not had their MMR vaccinations.’
