NHS Walsall nominated for top award

The Health Service Journal today announced that NHS Walsall is a finalist for the Primary Care Organisation of the Year award as well as being shortlisted in the Social Marketing and Long Term Conditions category. The results will be announced at the award ceremony which takes place on the 1 December 2008 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

NHS Walsall is the only NHS organisations this year to have been shortlisted in the  Primary Care Organisation Category for three years in a row. The organisation was highly commended in 2006 for what many commentators described as a turn around year and was once again a finalist in 2007 when it was also highly commended in the Communications category.

Paul Jennings, Chief Executive of NHS Walsall, said: ‘It’s really exciting to be shortlisted for the third time but we will be on tenterhooks until the first of December because we really want to win this time.’

The Health Service Journal awards are generally regarded as the Oscars of the NHS. With 1800 entries last year in 17 categories they represent the most hotly contested scheme for health organisations.
