Consultation on Urgent Care services to begin

Walsall Teaching Primary Care Trust (Walsall tPCT) is today announcing the beginning of a 12 week consultation into the way Urgent Care Services are delivered in Walsall. The consultation, which will run until Tuesday 13 May 2008, sets out proposals to move the GP Out of Hours service (Waldoc) from its current site at Goscote to the same site as Accident and Emergency at the Manor Hospital.

Stella Forsdike, Director of Commissioning and Performance for Walsall tPCT, said: “We believe that these proposals will improve local services, making the appropriate care easier to access for our population. We do want to hear what people think and we will listen carefully to all responses.”

Sarah Smith, Director of Development for Walsall Manor Hospital, said: “We welcome this development and believe it makes a lot of sense for patients and for the A&E department.”

The proposals will mean the development of an Emergency and Urgent Care Centre (EUCC) within the current A&E department which will allow patients to see the right person, at the right time, the first time.

The EUCC, which would also allow quicker access to Social Services and Mental Health Services, would be open from 6.30pm to 8.00am weekdays and all day weekends and Bank Holidays.
